Stone bathtub installation: plan support, access and plumbing

A project planning checklist for installing a natural stone bathtub: operating load, access route, lifting, drainage and service access.

The short answer

Plan a stone bathtub installation before production approval. Confirm the finished bath and operating load, structural support, delivery route, lifting method, waterproofing, drain and service access with qualified project professionals.

Confirm support using approved information

The load on the building includes the finished bath, water and intended users. A catalogue weight is provisional and is not enough to approve a floor. The responsible structural professional needs the project geometry, support arrangement and verified load information.

Ask which technical details are still awaiting confirmation. Record the final support footprint and any required coordination with the room construction. Do not assume that a floor suitable for another bathtub is suitable for the selected stone design.

Check the whole route to the bathroom

Map the route from the delivery vehicle to the installation position. Review unloading space, doorway openings, corridors, turns, stairs, lift capacity and any restricted access. Include the packed dimensions and handling arrangements when the logistics plan is prepared.

Agree who provides equipment and trained handling personnel. Lifting points, rigging and the sequence of movements must suit the approved bath and packing. This guide does not prescribe a lifting method for an unverified product.

Coordinate plumbing before the bath arrives

Have the plumber and design team review the drain position, trap, overflow arrangement, tap relationship and future maintenance access. Confirm the room waterproofing and applicable local requirements. A render does not prove the location of concealed plumbing.

Resolve details while the drawing can still be reviewed. A late change to the floor or drain connection can affect access, support and the installation sequence. Record the approved interfaces clearly for the workshop and site team.

  • Verified finished weight and operating-load assessment
  • Approved support and floor preparation
  • Measured access route and unloading plan
  • Drain and overflow specifications
  • Tap layout, waterproofing and service access
  • Installation responsibility and handover checks

Keep the installation handover documented

Before dispatch, compare the latest project drawing, packing plan and site requirements. At handover, retain the approved specification, material record and care instructions with the project files.

Ask for technical information early, ideally with your bathroom plan and intended bath position. Project-specific engineering and installation decisions remain with the appointed qualified professionals.

Common questions

Can I use the catalogue weight for a structural calculation?

No. Catalogue weights are provisional. Obtain verified project information and have the responsible structural professional assess support and operating loads.

Can the drain position be changed?

A change can be discussed during design review. It must be coordinated with geometry, manufacture and site plumbing before approval.
